A WEEKEND THAT MADE HISTORY!

Even the rain couldn't dampen spirits as North Penn faced Hatboro-Horsham in the varsity opener, the Phanatic brought out sunny smiles, and the vintage team Brandywine Baseball Club got one in, despite the weather, against the Elizabeth Resolutes. An event for the record books, right here at Weaver Field!

A NOTE OF APPRECIATION

Thanks to all who made Baseball Weekend special!

We hardly know where to begin, but first we'd like to thank the stalwart fans who braved the weather and turned out for a great high school varsity contest, the induction ceremony for the North Penn Hall of Fame, the great food and libations, and one vintage baseball game (out of a scheduled double header) played by rules in force at the turn of the 20th Century!

Our sincere appreciation to:

  • Well Crafted Beer Co. on Madison Street for graciously hosting our Friday evening baseball-in-Lansdale history panel on May 13 — and for donating those spiffy Lansdale 150 baseball jerseys you see here to benefit the celebration. (Jealous? There still may be a few left at Well Crafted!)
  • North Penn Baseball Coach Kevin Manero, Lansdale baseball historian Ron Zeigler, and Lansdale Historical Society's Dick Shearer for supplying two solid hours of fascinating stories about the legacy of baseball in the Borough that night.
  • The Brandywine Base Ball Club and Elizabeth Resolutes for persevering through the rain, moving out to the grass outfield and finishing one game despite occasional downpours, using rules that were in force about a hundred years ago (no gloves! One bounce catch is an out!)
  • Our friends at the Cannoneers Club for serving delicious refreshments to the hardy few who ventured out.
  • The North Penn Junior ROTC for honoring the flag and performing the National Anthem.
  • And the Phillie Phanatic (as well as a guest appearance by Philip the Lansdale Fox!) for brightening our overcast spirits.
